Traditionally
mobile computing in this area has been aimed at organisations that
manufacture and/or distribute Food and Beverage products.
In many countries the primary way
of physically getting product to market is through a
Route Accounting or Direct Store Delivery system. A
van becomes a mobile warehouse and the employee can
carry out a number of stock replenishment and vendor
managed inventory tasks. With fast moving stock like food
and drinks its
important to have the right applications to streamline
mobile processes for greater efficiency. Today there are
a number of other apps in this area. |

Asset Tracking – Allows the user to
manage handle stock and/or equipment in multiple
locations such as stores/vehicles/airports/building
sites etc. Assets can be transferred between sites,
users can pick assets from stock, and view asset details
on screen. Definable updates are then sent out to all
users to keep user up to date. GPS can be incorporated
to tag where items have been delivered or audited last.

Route Accounting, Direct Store Delivery
– Either linked to a legacy system or standalone
routes can be populated with jobs for work patterns with
varying stops or for rounds with the same stops. On
vehicle stock control is performed and receipts can be
printed on site or emailed though as a PDF reducing the
billing cycle dramatically.
Managers can use a Windows
Desktop application to book in and manage jobs, as well
as look up past jobs to view job details including
captured signatures, pickup and delivery details,
package details, and photos if required.

Stock Reconciliation – When required to
determine the stock levels within a store or vehicle
this application can come in very useful. Jobs can be
sent out to users instructing them to perform ad hoc
stock checks by scanning barcodes on the existing stock. When the results are
returned to the host missing stock levels with associated costs can
be calculated and processed.

Charity collection – The value of
material collected by charities is critical to their
fund raising capabilities. Automating the process
increases accuracy and reduces fraud whilst making the
process more transparent. With more people using charity
shops the ROI for a system like this is very compelling. When collecting
charity bags from houses, emptying charity bins in car
parks or
collections from charity shops this application allows
the user to record all the details of the collection. Information about the location GPS or
address, the size of the collection and signatures if a
shop collection can all be gathered. The results can the
update a legacy system
and/or produce a report of the collections performed.

Vehicle Inspection –
Where there is a need to move a vehicle from one
location to another book it into storage or visit it to
perform bodywork or maintenance tasks this application
can help reduce the paper work whilst also providing the
worker with the ability to take photos and sketch
capture to aid decision making and create a better audit
trail. The app provides inputs for vehicle details like VRM,
make, model and mileage and also the ability to enter
problems if any with wheels, damage to bodywork,
interior condition, items in vehicle. Reports can be
generated locally or on the host system. An receipt can
be printed locally for quick reference as well emailed
as a PDF copy for proof of inspection/delivery.
